You want the right equipment to ensure your fish thrive. You want crystal clear water. You want hassle-free maintenance.  Most importantly, you want healthy fish.

Equipment Checklist:
* Aquarium
* Glass Cover
* LED Light- designed for planted tanks
* Power filter:  We recommend an AquaClear power filter for most tanks.
With larger tanks you may want to consider a Fluval Canister filter.   These filters contain a biological, chemical, and mechanical component to keep your water clear and safe.  We always provide a large enough power filter to keep your maintenance low.
* Submersible heater: Easily maintain the proper temperature for your fish
* Thermometer:: An easy way to monitor water temperature
* Biological Starter: Adds nitrifying bacteria to your tank to help biological filtration begin
* Water Conditioner: Makes your  tap water  safe.
* Net
* Elmer's Handbook: This handy guidebook contains all your aquarium keeping basics for easy reference
  * Plant Substrate -  substrate designed to help plants thrive
  * Plant Fertilizer
* Algae Scraper

Additional Recommended Equipment:
*Aquarium Stand:  We stock a wide variety.  A wood cabinet with a door is our best seller.
* Background: Completes the look of your aquarium while also hiding wires and keeping out extra algae-causing sunlight.
* pH Test Kit or Freshwater Master Test Kit
* Ammonia Test Kit
* Siphon Tube: Makes partial water changes a breeze
* 5 Gallon Bucket: It is important to have a separate bucket for aquarium water changes that you do not use for other household cleaning.  Detergent residue can be harmful to your fish.

* Installation:   We can install your aquarium in your home or office.
* Maintenance:  We can provide maintenance every 2 weeks or 4 weeks for tanks within our 30 minute service range.

Additional Recommended Equipment for Planted Sets:
* CO2 System:  With the appropriate setup a supplemental CO2 system will make your plants thrive

  * Driftwood: Decorative driftwood is perfect for a planted system.  You can also attach certain plants to the driftwood and their roots will
attach.

  * Air Pump, valve and tubing:  You can use a supplemental air pump if you wish to keep a higher fish load.  If your fish population is kept low you can filter a system without an air pump. The drawback to an air pump in a planted system is that the air pump drives off carbon dioxide.

*  Power strip with timer:   Some plant enthusiasts operate an air pump at night when plants are not producing oxygen and turn the air pump off during the day when plants are producing oxygen.  This can be maintained with the proper timer.

Adding Livestock:
Wait about 48 hours before you add livestock.  Then you can introduce a few fish.  It will take a few weeks for your tank to be ready for a full population of fish.  Follow the guidelines in our handbook for proper stocking.   Be sure to add fish that are "plant safe"   . Best choices include small schooling fish such as tetras, barbs, danios and rasboras. Choose smaller catfish such as corydoras, otocinclus, or bristlenose plecostomus.  These smaller cats will not disrupt plants.  Other plant safe fish include Rams, guppies, mollies, moons,
Nerite snails are plant safe.

There are also plenty of freshwater shrimp that thrive in planted freshwater systems as long as they are kept with small peaceful fish.

Avoid fish that may eat or disrupt plants such as South American Cichlids, Malawi Cichlids, Silver Dollars.
