For beginners:  Stock a new tank slowly:
Be sure to add a water conditioner and biological starter first.
Fish should be added slowly to new systems.   Add a few fish 1-3 days after you set up the tank.  In 2 weeks  you add another batch.  It takes up to 4-6 weeks for the biological filter to become fully established so the tank should not be stocked to full capacity until then.

How Many Fish?  You can keep up to 1" of fish per gallon.
For more information on proper stocking techniques for beginners see our 16 page Aquarium Handbook.
