Black Phantom Tetra (Megalomphodus megalopterus)

A peaceful schooling fish. These fish are very popular and are one of our best selling Tetras.
Tank Mates: Keep with calm tankmates and they will show their best colors. Like most tetras they look best in schools or 6 or more. Good tank mates may include neons, red phantom tetras, rummynose tetras, flame tetras, harlequin rasboras, white clouds, corydoras catfish, and other small peaceful fish.
Housing: Provide dark gravel and background for best color. Use live or plastic plants for cover, and provide an open swimming area in front. ( Temperature 68-72. pH 6.5-7.0)
Feeding: They will accept a variety of foods. Feed standard foods such as flakes, shrimp, frozen and freeze-dried foods, Feed 2-3 times a day.
Males and Females: They are one of the few tetras that can be easily sexed in our store. At maturity females have red on their ventral and adipose fins, and males have black on these fins. Males also have a larger dorsal fin.
Native Habitat: South American, Amazon River Basin. The fish we sell are domestically raised in Florida.
