Banded Leporinus

A hardy and colorful fish.  Just be careful what you mix them with. Best purchased as singles. This fish can be belligerent  and should be kept with active fish of similar size. It may be suitalbe in a cichlid community tanks because it can defend itself very well against aggressive fish. They harass slow moving fish and are not to be trusted with angels, gouramis, swords, or small barbs. Compatible  with large sharks, plecostomus and many South American Cichlids. Sometimes leporinus fight among themselves,  and are best kept as singles. These fish usually fit in cichlid tanks because their behavior is very different than most cichlids, and they pose little threat to the dominant cichlids. They are slow moving and often swim in a head down position. They enjoy picking at gravel. Feed standard foods twice a day. Try offering frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms  occasionally. Omnivorous, will nibble on plants.
